NAME
noun
A word or set of words by which a person or thing is known, addressed, or referred to."my name is John Parsons" -Google dictionary
Names. Everyone has one, most people have a vague idea what their own means, but few give them much more thought. The study of names is called Onomastics, a field which touches on linguistics, history, anthropology, psychology, sociology, philology and much more. When people refer to the "meaning of a name", they are most likely referring to the Etymology, which is the original literal meaning.
We hardly really contemplate why someone is named the way they are, and even more for institutions or companies. More often than not, the names of the businesses we encounter everyday fail to describe the essence of that company's spirit. That's why we were focused on getting our company's name right. It had to say in one word who we are and what we do.

Something positive. And why not? It can already be a challenge and a chore to come in and work hard to achieve lasting goals. We wanted a name that gave positive vibes and could keep the spirit up. Then we went a step further... Not everyone knows that we came up with a different name for the group class studio.
Ask yourself: How would you like to feel before and after working hard at Elevate?
We asked ourselves this very question and wanted a name that boosted morale and gave everyone the right attitude or frame of mind. That is why we called the group class studio EMPOWER.
So what do we stand for?
We would like to share our CORE VALUES with you, just so you know it's not just about ELEVATE-ing...
Commitment and perseverance to motivate and encourage clients, thereby making a difference.
Enthusiasm in excellence.
Generosity in sharing our unique intelligence as dancers.
Always dealing with clients and coworkers with attentiveness, sensitivity, compassion, and acceptance.
Recognizing that success can be attained through respectful teamwork.
At one point or another we might have had the opportunity to name something: a pet, a toy, or even a child. We would have had several options (depending on how sophisticated our minds were... remember a spotted dog named Spottie?) and then see how they'd fit. Eventually we'd settle on THE ONE.
There's a really good example of this in a F.R.I.E.N.D.S episode when Rachel Green gives birth to a baby girl... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Kn759vSF8Q
Now we would like to answer the question at the top of this page.
