November 2021. Pandemic Perspective: Giving Thanks... Our Own Way

A person skillfully carves a turkey on a wooden table, preparing for a festive meal.

What's on the menu at a Thanksgiving dinner? Pies, cranberry sauce, green bean casserole, ham, and, of course, turkey. For some, there's also a heap of giving thanks, which is the reason for the holiday, right?

In case you aren't so clear on the origins of this American tradition, follow THIS LINK to learn more. Other cultures also celebrate having a day of Thanksgiving to spend with their loved ones. Learn more about that HERE.

The purpose of this article is not to extol the virtues of celebrating a holiday but to remind ourselves that thanks can be given every day. Spending quality time with your loved ones can be done more than once or twice a year. Holidays that bring families and friends together will always be valuable, but a personal practice of giving thanks for what you have, where you are, who you are, and what is to come is, in my opinion, a healthy perspective to maintain. There is an article on the 7 scientifically proven benefits of gratitude.

Make it a habit. This ties in with an earlier post on this blog about MEDITATION and how we can benefit from it. With the latest strain of the virus making headlines across the world, it might be time to truly think of what it means to give thanks.
